Accessing NDIS funds for disability services
Accessing NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) funding for disability services in Australia can be a complex process, but with the right guidance, it becomes more manageable. At Queensland Community Services, we are dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate every step of the NDIS journey. Here’s how you can access NDIS funding, with our expert support available at each stage.

Queensland community services can direct you to right direction and provide suggestions on accessing NDIS funding for the disability support services you need.
1. Check Your Eligibility
The first step is determining whether you’re eligible for NDIS funding. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
- Age: You must be under 65 years of age.
- Residency: You need to be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
- Disability: You must have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to perform everyday tasks or have a developmental delay for children under 7 years.

2. Make an Access Request
If you’re eligible, you need to make an access request. You can do this by:
- Calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110 and requesting an Access Request Form.
- Completing the form online or with the assistance of a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or a healthcare professional.
You will need to provide information about your disability, how it impacts your daily life, and medical reports or assessments that support your claim.
3. Provide Supporting Documents
When submitting your Access Request, you’ll need to include relevant supporting documents from healthcare professionals, such as doctors, specialists, or occupational therapists. These documents should explain the nature of your disability and how it affects your functional capacity.
4. NDIS Decision
After submitting your request and documents, the NDIS will review your application and make a decision. This can take up to 21 days. If your application is approved, you’ll be contacted to begin the planning process.
5. Develop Your NDIS Plan
Once your NDIS access is approved, you’ll meet with a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or a National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) planner to develop your personalized NDIS plan. During this meeting, you’ll discuss your needs, goals, and the types of support and services you require.
This plan will outline:
- Core Supports: Day-to-day support, such as personal care or household tasks.
- Capacity Building Supports: Assistance with skill development or accessing community services.
- Capital Supports: Funding for equipment, home modifications, or assistive technologies.
6. NDIS Plan Approval
After your plan is approved, you’ll receive details about the types of support and services you can access through your NDIS funding. Queensland Community Services offers a wide range of NDIS-approved services, including personal care, therapy, mobility support, and community engagement.
7. Choose Service Providers
Once your NDIS plan is in place, you can begin selecting service providers. Queensland Community Services is a registered NDIS provider, offering high-quality, personalized care that aligns with your individual goals and needs. We provide a full spectrum of services, including personal care, support with daily living tasks, community participation, and skill development. Our team will work with you to implement your NDIS plan effectively and ensure you receive the support you deserve.
8. Implement and Manage Your Plan
You can manage your NDIS funding in three ways:
- Self-Management: You manage your funds and payments.
- Plan Management: A plan manager helps you organize your funds and pay for services.
- NDIA Management: The NDIA manages your funds and makes payments directly to service providers.
Your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can help you implement your plan and connect you with service providers.
9. Review Your Plan
NDIS plans are generally reviewed annually, but if your needs change, you can request an early plan review. During the review, you can adjust your goals and the services you require.
